July 2008 saw the Cornwall Pure Business team make their way to London to host two events for potential relocators as part of the “I’d Rather be in Cornwall Club” series.
The Relocator Workshop
For the first time, relocator workshops were held in the afternoon and provided an opportunity for businesses interested in making the move to Cornwall to speak face to face with financial, business, commercial property and recruitment advisors from the Cornwall.
The workshops were designed to provide businesses with the opportunity to bring their business plans and talk through their relocation thoughts in detail.
The advisors in attendance were: Peter Castell - Business Development Manager, Combined Universities in Cornwall; Allyson Glover - Project Manager, Unlocking Cornish Potential; Nick McBreen - Independent Financial Advisor, Worldwide Financial Planning; Greg Oldrieve - Managing Director, Vickery Holman Commercial Property Consultants and Hannah Revell - Business Broker, West Cornwall Business Network.
Cornwall Question Time
The evening event started with Cornwall Question Time debate around the question “Relocation and recession- Is it possible to overcome the challenges?”
A dynamic audience made up of potential inward investors, Cornish business people and public support agencies gathered in London to hear about the challenges of relocation to the county in the current economic climate. Hosted by Cornwall Pure Business and chaired by leading broadcaster Nicholas Owen, the panel discussed the pros and cons of the county as a business location.
The panellists all provided their own unique view point. Sitting on the panel were: John Fisher - Director, Local Futures Group; Dr Ranulf Scarbrough - Chief Researcher, BT Group, Paul Bason, Innovations Director, Combined Universities in Cornwall, Lucy Jewson - Managing Director, Frugi, David Crisp - CEO, Orecon and Charlotte Chadwick - Employment & Enterprise Officer, Penwith District Council.
The event, supported by Air South West, provided an opportunity for businesses interested in making the move to the county to have their questions answered.
