I'D RATHER BE IN CORNWALL CLUB

IRBICC 2005 SUMMARY 2005

April 2005 marked the inaugural IRBICC, a networking event organised by Cornwall Pure Business with the help of the Combined Universities of Cornwall (CUC) Business Fellows and CUC Business Support team; for companies interested in doing business in the county. The original venue for the IRBICC was The Groucho Club in London Soho; chosen as a suitable place due to its history and connections with the TV, the Media and Creative industries.

Cornwall Film had recently launched a new investment fund, The Cornwall Film production fund aimed to stimulate local development and production in TV, new media and film to generate more than £7.8m for the local economy. There were 58 attendees across a wide range of companies such as UK Film Council, Channel 4 and other film and production companies. A number of journalists from national media also attended.

Due to the positive feedback from the first event, two more were held in 2005. June followed the same theme as April and focused on the film industry and design sub sector. As both events were a success and achieved their objectives of targeting the creative sector with roughly 30 creative companies attending, it was decided that each event could take on a theme and an inspirational keynote speaker identified going forward.

The November event focused on the gaming industry which was strong in London but with advances in IT, could be effectively based anywhere in the country, therefore making Cornwall an attractive proposition.
